Mount Mee By Jackie Carpenter
Friday 3rd July 2015
We set of from our place in Gympie picking up fellow members Waffle and Brenda and headed to Mt Mee via the Glass House Mountains. After a quick stop at Woodford for pies we turned left and headed up to Stanton Road. I picked this way as I thought it would be a nice scenic drive. Steep narrow ascents with long decents and shear drops on one side it was the longest 3/4 hour drive I have been on for a while.
Finally arriving at our destination Neurum Creek just before lunch time we set up our sites before having a look around. Beautiful creek just behind the camp grounds, just perfect for a swim in summer and what looks like a nice bush walk.
Brad and Gavin arrived and quickly set up their area and it was time for dinner. Camp grounds were pretty quiet till about 11pm and then a group of people arrived and their noise continued till around 4 in the morning. They quickly disappeared which was lucky as there were some very grumpy people that morning and it was freezing.
Tony and Kim arrived and set up their camp and not long after Grahams nephew turned up to stay along with a friend who came out for the day. Around 11.30 we set off for a drive around the park. We headed up past the Gantry day use area and down a narrow road with spectacular views that led us to Jacky's Rd, the start of our exploring. Of course I had to make wrong turns. Jacky's road is beautiful, very up and down but some lovely spots to stop and take photos.
From there we headed up to A Break, a track that Brad wanted to do. This is not a hard track but more very steep climbs to peaks where you didn't know where the road went. The worst hill had a large rut in the middle which you had to straddle and a little step up. Slight mishap when Tony and Kim slipped into the rut but with backing up and Grey spotting they got through it. Grey then spotted the others up and we proceeded to head back to camp. On the way back we just happened to find a nice little track with a couple of mud puddles for those that wanted to get dirty.
Back to camp for nibbles then scones with jam and cream cooked by Brad in the camp ovens. Dinner was relaxing and we settled back to dessert which was sticky date pudding and the best yet. The next morning we packed up and wandered home with us not leaving till nearly 12 as we just dawdled. All in all a beautiful place to camp and drive around and we will definitely be going back to explore more.
