Land Cruiser Mountain Park By Jackie Carpenter
Sunday, June 14th 2015.
After coming through some very ordinary weather we met Brad and Gavin at Woodford to take them for their first foray to Landcruiser Mountain Park to watch their first winch challenge. The road to the park was very muddy and slippery and as we got closer the sun suddenly came out. After checking in we wandered down the road which in itself was a challenge to them as it is very rutted in parts and had a couple of nice little water crossings. We set up camp and decided to take them on a quick drive before we went and watched the challenge.
The first part of the track had a rather nice water crossing a little deep and very slippery on coming out of it. Up to the pig pen for a look and then over another crossing which was deeper and had Brad nervously going through it. We then took them up to show them Telecom hill and then out to watch the challenge truck, where we had a friend competing. This was great fun to watch and made you wish you had one to do it in. We were going to try a track there we had previously done but it was too wet and slippery for normal tyres.
Quick stop to have a look at Camp road then back to camp to relax before dinner and Brad's famous dessert. Sitting around the fire talking and watching big rigs doing night runs with lights blazing and doing a wish list suddenly Grey an Brad were gone. With Brad driving and Grey helping out they had jumped into Brads car had headed out. Through creeks including the deep one and up rutted hills that people had gotten stuck on Brad had his first experience of a night drive. Headed back to camp for a well earned sleep.
The next morning after we packed up Brad wanted to do the deep creek again so off we went.Did another quick track but turned around as it was to boggy to go on. It was a great weekend and the first of many more trips out there. The next time we will be doing a lot more tracks and spending more time watching the comp trucks.
