Well, what can I say about the Brooyar State Forest and the Glastonbury Camping area?!
A great spot to spend a few days, except for when 120 school students arrive at the school camp next door, but more on that later. It had nowhere near the bird life of the Peach Trees trip but was very picturesque and peaceful all the same.
On this trip we had Jackie & Graham, Sarah & Brett, Darryl & Carmel, Danny & Leahh (and a guest), Glenda, and Kate & myself of course. Grant (aka; Waffle) came for the day trip on Saturday, as did Steve (a friend of Jackie & Graham) We also had Doug with us for the day
on Saturday.
Some folk opted to arrive and set up on the Friday and picked out a nice flat area with room enough for all of us while the rest of us met up at Aussie World, near the Caloundra exit on the Bruce Highway, for the drive North to Gympie and Brooyar. On arrival we all set up camp and Jackie & Graham led us on a drive around the area as this was their home turf and Kate & I went "tail end charlie" for a change. We had 10 vehicles in the convoy which included members and guests, some camping, some day tripping.
There was nothing difficult about the terrain but some of it would have been more difficult in the wet. Some awesome views were available from some of the ridge lines and also from a lookout where we stopped for photos. (see galleries below) This lookout is apparently a popular place for abseiling & climbing as there were stainless steel anchors in the rock and the signage was a bit of a giveaway too.
The drive took us through parts of Brooyar and Glastonbury state forests and was a very enjoyable way to spend the afternoon. Our thanks to Jackie & Graham for showing us around and also to Waffle for the running commentary we had on some stretches. After the Drive, some folk headed for home while the rest of us went back to camp where day drifted into night with the usual dinners and chats around the campfire.

Sunday was a lazy start and we didn't end up driving anywhere but just relaxed around camp. Jackie & Graham packed up and went home but popped back later on for Jackie & Kate to try some star photography and they were kind enough to bring us some more firewood as well. Darryl & Carmel and Glenda stayed for Sunday night as well and Glenda, Kate and myself stayed for Monday night too. All in all it was a very relaxing weekend apart from the afore mentioned school kids.
The kids, although noisy, were all sent to bed at 9pm and in the morning, they were all packing up their tents to go on a bush walk to spend their next 2 nights at a bush camp over the other side of the ridge somewhere. Peace and tranquility was restored. On Tuesday morning we had a very casual pack up and left Glenda (also packing up) to head off to have a coffee with Jackie & Graham & their son John. Unfortunately Graham was out but we enjoyed the visit all the same.
My apologies for this report being so late, it's been a hectic couple of weeks for Kate and myself despite the fact that Kate has had 2 weeks off work. We've been a tad busy.
